A runner-up last season in the 72 kg division at the conference championships, Calgary wrestler McNeice did one better this time around, as he wrestled his way to gold in Edmonton. McNeice’s field included four other wrestlers, three of which he beat by fall. His lone match to go to a decision came against Marcus Peterson of the Alberta Golden Bears. Trailing 4-2 after the first round, McNeice rallied with two two-point takedowns before avoiding a last ditched effort by Peterson for the win. The third-year Dino was named the Outstanding Male Wrestler of the Year for his performance at the Canada West Championships and will now look to move up the national pecking order, as he hopes to improve on last year's fourth-place finish at the U SPORTS Championships.

She’s done it before and she’s done it again.  Varsity Blues swimming standout Masse was her usual dominant self at the 2018 OUA Swimming Championship, and as a result, has earned this week’s Female Athlete of the Week nod. The 2017 world champion and 100-meter backstroke world record holder earned her fourth straight OUA Female Swimmer of the Year honour in leading the Varsity Blues to their fifth consecutive provincial title this past weekend in London, Ont.

Masse, a 2016 Olympics bronze medalist, won four individual and two relay gold medals, while breaking five OUA records in the process. Masse won the 50-metre and 100-metre backstroke events, earning OUA Grand Slam awards for both, while bettering her own OUA record in the 50-metre race. The LaSalle, Ont., native and kinesiology major also won the 50-metre freestyle and 100-metre butterfly races, setting new OUA records in both, and helped the Blues to OUA record-breaking performances in the 200-metre freestyle and 200-metre medley relays.
