Lilah Fraser, a second-year wrestler for the Algoma Thunderbirds, placed first at women’s 83 kilogram weight class at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Open and had a 3-0 victory with all three wins by fall. Fraser defeated Vanessa Fonrose of McMaster – the 2023 U SPORTS bronze medallist – as well as Logan Stimson of Guelph, who was sixth at last year’s national championship.
Yazdan Farokhizad, a second-year wrestler for the Brock Badgers lead the way for the men's team to place first overall with a total of 81 points at the Toronto Metropolitan University Open last weekend by winning gold in the 90-kilogram weight class. Farokhizad secured a 12-2 victory against the nationally ranked – and 2023 OUA champion – Howard Gaire, maintaining a 4-0 record with all wins by pin or technial superiority. Farokhizad and the Badgers return to action in Toronto to compete in the York Open this Sunday.
