Fraser Valley Athletics
Among university presidents in Canada, Dr. Joanne MacLean understands the world of sport in a deeper way than most.
From her days as a decorated women's basketball student-athlete at the University of New Brunswick, to her years at the University of Windsor as women's basketball head coach and athletic director, to coaching and admin roles with Team Canada at the World University Games, the University of the Fraser Valley's president and vice-chancellor has long been immersed in sport alongside her academic pursuits.
In light of those experiences, it seemed fitting that, earlier this week, MacLean was introduced as a new addition to the U SPORTS board of directors. She'll serve as the Canada West conference's presidential representative to the national governing body, lending her sport expertise and bringing her career full-circle in a sense.
GoCascades.ca caught up with MacLean for a Q&A to reflect on her formative years in sport, and the challenges that await on the U SPORTS board.
