Sebastian Colyn, des Spartans de Trinity Western et Jaslan Stirling des Lions de York Lions sont les Athlètes masculin et féminin de U SPORTS pour la période se terminant le 24 septembre 2017.
Colyn, le gardien de but de première année, a grandement contribué au weekend impressif des Spartans sur la route, le weekend dernier, alors que Trinity Western a défait l’équipe de l’Alberta, #1 au classement (2-0) et Calgary (1-0). Colyn a récolté un total de 15 arrêts au cours des deux matchs, obtenant ses troisième et quatrième blanchissages de la saison 2017. Colyn a couronné son weekend avec l’arrêt d’un tir de pénalité à la 86e minute contre Calgary dimanche.
Les deux victoires consécutives ont amélioré la fiche de l’UTW à 5-2-3. La victoire contre l’équipe #1 au classement, les Golden Bears, représentait la première victoire des Spartans contre l’Alberta en six ans. Le gardien recrue des Spartans est maintenant à égalité au deuxième rang des blanchissages au pays, avec quatre, et 12e dans la moyenne des buts contre (0.76), septième au pourcentage des arrêts in goals against average seventh in save percentage (.851), and fifth in saves (40).
Stirling, a field hockey player, scored six goals in three games, including two game-winners and a hat trick, to lead the Lions to a perfect 3-0 record this past weekend.

In the first game on Saturday, the rookie forward scored the opening goal in the seventh minute, what stood as the game winner, as the Lions defeated the three-time reigning OUA champion Toronto Varsity Blues for the first time since 1999. Against McGill on Sunday she again scored early, in the fourth minute, and added another two before the end of the first half as part of a 6-1 victory. Later that same day, she found the back of the net in the fifth minute to equal the game against the Gryphons and added an insurance goal in the 67th minute in a contest the Lions won 3-1.
Stirling leads all players with nine goals in five games, six more than any other player in the country, and the Lions are undefeated at 5-0 for the best record in U SPORTS.
