Two UBC swimmers, and two former Thunderbirds are being recognized as some of the world's best as professional International Swimming League competitors in 2020.

Emily Overholt (Vancouver) is on the roster of the new Toronto Titans team, joined by two former UBC sprint specialists Brent Hayden (Mission, B.C.) and Yuri Kisil (Calgary). Markus Thormeyer of Delta, B.C., will be swimming for the Tokyo Frog Kings, another brand-new ISL squad.

Former UBC head coach Steve Price has been named an assistant with the Iron team of Hungary.

Other U SPORTS swimmers competing in the ISL's second season include former Toronto Varsity Blues Kylie Masse, Rebecca Smith and Eli Wall, along with current Manitoba Bison Kelsey Wog, the reigning Lieutenant Governor Athletic Award Winner as U SPORTS Female Athlete of the Year.

Wog's head coach Vlastimil Cerny will assist Toronto bench boss Byron MacDonald at the Titans' helm.

The 2020 campaign will see 10 qualifying matches taking place in October and November in Budapest, Hungary, with the semifinals (Nov. 19-22) comprising the top eight teams. The four winners will advance to a Grand Final in December, at a location to be determined.

The ISL matches will be some of the first major international swimming events since the COVID-19 pandemic halted most sports in the spring. They will also be a major milestone in the lead-up to the rescheduled 2020 Tokyo Olympic Summer Games, now slated to begin in July 2021.
