International News

U SPORTS and Alpine Canada Alpin have announced the ski rosters that will compete at the FISU World Winter University Games next January in Lake Placid, NY.

Twelve skiers will take part in the alpine events, while four others will compete in ski cross.

Alpine competition will run from January 13-21 through five events: Super G, Alpine Combined, Slalom, Giant Slalom and Mixed Team Parallel. These races will be held at Whiteface Mountain, site of the 1980 Winter Olympics.

Alpine skiing made its debut at the FISU Games in 1960 (Chamonix, France). Canada has won three medals in the discipline – two gold and one bronze – including the first-ever claimed by Lisa Richardson at Lake Placid 1972.

The Canadian team will be led by Michel Huot. The former Montreal Carabins’ head coach will be appearing in his fourth FISU Games. He will be supported by newly appointed Laval Rouge et Or’s coach Alice Stoll.

The four ski cross competitors, all from the University of Calgary, will race on January 15 and 16. An optional sport at the FISU Games since Innsbruck 2005, Canada made its first appearance in ski cross at Trentino 2013.

Adam Bourns will lead the Canadian ski cross team on the slopes of Gore Mountain.
