“It is a great privilege for Promutuel Insurnace to present the most important university football game of the year in Canada,” said Claude Frenette, General Manager of Promutual Insurance Portneuf-Champlain. “We invite football fans from all over, to be THERE with Promutual Insurance as we celebrate the best in U SPORTS football on November 23rd.”

"It is a natural fit for us to renew our partnership with Promutuel Insurance for the presentation of such an amazing event at Université Laval," said Christian Côté, president of the 2019 Vanier Cup organizing committee. "They were with us for the 2015 and 2018 editions of the U SPORTS championship, and on behalf of the organizing committee, I would like to thank Promutuel for their confidence and support of our on-going partnership.”

Côté, the well-know public address announcer for the Rouge et Or, presides over the Vanier Cup organization for this third time in his career.

Sixth time hosting

Beyond Christian Côté, the 2019 Vanier Cup presented by Promutuel Insurance host committee is comprised of a dozen members, the majority being employees of the Université Laval Sports Services. The majority of the organizing committee has been involved with the hosting of the five previous Vanier Cup championships presented in Québec in 2009, 2010, et 2013 et 2015. “Our team has proven over the years that we have the professionalism and expertise to put on a world-class event,” said Laval Athletic Director Julie Dionne.

Football fans in Quebec City have been treated to outstanding performances during the first five editions of the Vanier Cup presented at Telus-UL Stadium.

November 28, 2009, was the first time the Vanier Cup was hosted in Quebec, and 16,237 fans witnessed the Queen's University Gaels overcome a 25-7 halftime deficit to top the University of Calgary Dinos 33-31.

Eliminated in the U SPORTS semifinal by Queen’s in 2009, the Rouge et Or from Univeristé Laval ensured that they made amends in the 2010 edition of the Vanier Cup. Before 16,628 faithful, Glen Constantin’s team capped off a perfect season with a 29-2 victory over the Dinos.

It was the same scenario three years later when Laval once again bested the Dinos 25-14 in front of 18,543 fans for their eighth U SPORTS title during the 49th Vanier Cup championship.

Another 12,557 fans witnessed another dramatic finish in 2015 as placekicker Quinn van Gylswky split the uprights from 20-yards out as time expired to lift the UBC Thunderbirds a 26-23 victory over the Université de Montréal Carabins in Vanier Cup 51.

Last year, the Rouge et Or capture its 10th Vanier Cup title in front 12,380 fans at Telus-UL Stadium topping the then-defending champions from Western University 34-20 to cap off the fourth perfect season in Université Laval history.

"Quebec City football fans have proven over the years their love U SPORTS football,” said Lisette Johnson Stapley, Chief Sport Officer at U SPORTS. "In 2009 and 2015, they filled the stands at Telus-UL Stadium even without the presence of the local team creating an amazing atmosphere for our student-athletes." She added that when the Rouge et Or have contested the championship in front of their faithful, “it has been an undeniable advantage for the home squad.”

The 2019 Vanier Cup presented by Promutuel Insurance features the winners of the Uteck Bowl (RSEQ champions at Atlantic University Sport Champions) and Mitchell Bowl (Ontario University Athletics champions at Canada West champions). The semifinal games will be played on Saturday, November 16, 2019.
