The FISU Summer World University Games are the Olympic Games of University Sport and U SPORTS is thrilled to send a Canadian Delegation to the Rhine-Ruhr Games to compete in eighteen (18) sports in July 2025. The FISU Summer World University Games is one of the largest summer multisport events worldwide, second only in size to the Olympic Games.

U SPORTS is the franchise holder of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) in Canada and is responsible for the coordination and entry of the Canadian team in both the Summer and Winter FISU World University Games. Every two years, Canadian delegations are sent to Summer and Winter FISU World University Games supported by a Canadian Mission Team composed of experienced sport leaders and medical staff from across the country.

2025 FISU Summer World University Games:

The 2025 FISU Summer World University Games (SWUG) will be held in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany. The 12- day multi summer sport event is scheduled to take place from July 16th to July 27th, 2025.

The SWUG take place every two years in various cities around the world. The 32nd FISU Summer World University Games will feature the following eighteen (18) sports:

• 3x3 Basketball (including 3x3 Wheelchair Basketball), Basketball, Badminton, Beach Volleyball, Archery, Fencing, Artistic Gymnastics, Judo, Athletics, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Rowing, Swimming, Taekwondo, Tennis, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Water Polo, and Diving.

Canadian Delegation:

The Canadian delegation is anticipated to be composed of approximately 340 members (240 student- athletes and 100 support staff). Student-athletes must meet specific eligibility criteria to participate, and coaching staff must satisfy the Team Canada FISU World University Games Coaching Certification Policy.

U SPORTS is currently seeking an experienced individual for the position of Chef de Mission to help lead the Canadian delegation for the 2025 FISU Summer World University Games. Further staff will be added to the Mission Team following the selection of the Chef. Another Call for Application will be distributed for the additional positions by the end of April.

Call for Application - Team Canada Chef de Mission Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, July 16-27, 2025

o Candidates will possess the best combination of the following:

  • Currently working in Canadian university athletics.

  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills.

  • Outstanding administrative and leadership abilities.

  • Strong ability and desire to work in a team environment.

  • Commitment for the duration of, and all planning meetings prior to, the SWUG

    (approximately 20 days including the period July 16th to July 27th, 2025).

  • Endorsement from the university or employer.

  • Games Mission Team experience.

  • Ability to work in English and French is an asset.

  • Availability to perform required duties and tasks leading up to the FISU World University Games.

  • Knowledge of international sport structures, policies (including Safe Sport), and protocol.

  • Agree to all terms outlined in the Application Form.

    Note: Previous Mission Staff experience is essential for the Chef de Mission position.

    Funding:

    All expenses will be covered including travel, meals, accommodations, Team Canada kit, administration, supplies (approximately $5000 per staff) except for a $500 fee per selected candidate. U SPORTS is working towards reducing the cost for student-athletes and team staff participation at the games and thus will be collecting a small fee only to help cover these expenses while providing Mission Staff with an outstanding professional development opportunity.

Additional Information:

Gender equity, bilingual language requirements, and team environment compatibility will be considered. Although previous FISU World University Games experience is an asset, mission staff selection will take a balanced approach in the view to develop games volunteers. Multiple games experiences will not guarantee selection. All candidates will be subject to a screening process, including a criminal records check and reference check, prior to the confirmation of their selection. All participants will be required to take Safe Sport Certification.
