For the first time in more than 20 years, the Concordia University Stingers are the top-ranked team heading into the 2022 U SPORTS women’s hockey championships.

The seeding was announced on Sunday for the 2022 national tournament, which runs from Thursday to Sunday at UPEI’s MacLauchlan Arena in Charlottetown. All 11 matches from the eight-team competition will be webcast live on cbcsports.ca and CBC Gem, with the Golden Path Trophy final on Sunday at 6 p.m. Atlantic Time also being telecast in French on TVA Sports.

Rounding out the seeding behind RSEQ champion Concordia are the No. 2 UNB Reds (AUS champions), No. 3 UBC Thunderbirds (Canada West champions), No. 4 Brock Badgers (OUA champions), No. 5 Saskatchewan Huskies (Canada West finalists), No. 6 Nipissing Lakers (OUA finalists), No. 7 McGill Martlets (RSEQ finalists) and No. 8 UPEI Panthers (hosts).

The quarter-final matchups, split over the first two days of competition, including UNB vs. McGill (3 p.m.) and UBC vs. Nipissing (7 p.m.) on Thursday, followed by Brock vs. Saskatchewan (3 p.m.) and Concordia vs. UPEI (7 p.m.) on Friday.

Concordia is the first RSEQ team to be seeded No. 1 since McGill in 2015, won the inaugural two Golden Path Trophy titles, in 1998 and 1999. UNB, Brock and Nipissing will both be making their first appearance at the championship, while McGill has qualified for a record 20th time and has won four championships.
