Madisson Lawrence of Manitoba and Mark Bujnowski of Guelph have been named the U SPORTS track and field athletes of the week for the period ending March 12, 2023.

Madisson Lawrence was the only female double gold medallist at last week’s FFUN U SPORTS Track and Field Championships, presented by Discover Saskatoon, and was named the female athlete of the meet for her efforts. In the pentathlon, contested on the opening day of the meet, the fourth-year kinesiology and recreation management student took over the top spot after the second event (high jump) and never looked back. She finished the event with 4,114 points, 77 points ahead of her nearest competitor, Joely Welburn of Regina. In Saturday’s high jump event, Lawrence was the only competitor to clear 1.76 metres as she took home her second gold medal of the weekend.
Mark Bujnowski, Guelph

Mark Bujnowski is the U SPORTS track and field athlete of the week after being named the male athlete of the meet at last week’s FFUN U SPORTS Track and Field Championships, presented by Discover Saskatoon. On Friday, Bujnowski opened his 2023 championships by successfully defending his gold medal in the men's weight throw, winning the event with an outstanding throw of 19.59m. On Saturday, Bujnowski earned his second gold medal of the weekend, securing the top spot on the podium in the men's shot put. Bujnowski's throw of 19.08m blew the previous U SPORTS record out of the water by 0.60m, which was previously set by Saskatchewan's Andrew Smith in 2011. Hailing from Mount Brydges, Ontario, Bujnowski’s throw was an impressive 2.68m ahead of the second-place competitor.
