Team Canada left the 2022 World University Championship Canoe Sprint held in Bydgoszcz, Poland earning five medals (four silver, one bronze) in canoe sprints.

Evie McDonald (University of Ottawa) left the championships with a team-high three silver medals. McDonald, a second-year medicine and health student narrowly missed the top of the podium in the C1 Women’s 200m sprint with a time of 52.08.

McDonald also teamed up with Jessica Mackay of Saint Mary’s University to finish second in the C2 Women’s 200m race with a time of 51.20.

McDonald’s third silver medal came in the C2 Women’s 500m race, where she was joined by teammate Amelia Wojtyk of Dalhousie University to place a time of 2:09.39.

Wojtyk, a native of Ottawa, Ont. also took home another silver in the C1 Women’s 500m race.

Rounding out the medal winners was Foster Salpeter (UBC) and Édourd Beaumier (Polytechnique Montréal) on the men’s side. The Canadian canoe duo finished the C2 men’s 500m race with a time of 1:49:98 to land on the podium to earn bronze medal.
