Offensive Player of the Week: Taylor Elgersma, Laurier

  • Position: Quarterback

Taylor Elgersma achieved a groundbreaking performance over the weekend in a 60-21 win against Guelph on the Gryphons’ home ground. Elgersma completed 31 of 36 pass attempts for 451 yards and tied the program record with six touchdown passes. He was responsible for a seventh score as he ran in for a major with nine minutes left in the game.

Defensive Player of the Week: Kyle Chappus, Acadia

  • Position: Defensive Lineman

Kyle Chappus played a significant role in withstanding the SMU offensive line. The defensive lineman made four tackles for loss, including three quarterback sacks, and successfully caused 24 total yards lost in a 13-5 loss against the Saint Mary’s Huskies on Friday night in Wolfville, N.S. Chappus made 6.5 total tackles throughout the game - five solo and one assisted – and sits in the top spot of the AUS for sacks with a total of 3.5 for the season.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Ben Hadley, STFX

  • Position: Kicker/Punter
  • Hometown: Halifax, N.S.
  • Year: 4th
  • Program: Business Administration (BBA)

Ben Hadley was the player of the game in STFX’s 43-8 win over Mount Allison on Saturday in Sackville, N.B. His six field goals brought him a school record and tied the AUS conference mark. Hadley also added to his athletic resume a 14-yard touchdown after completing a botched snap, giving him a total of 29 points on the day. He averaged 65.2 yards on five kickoffs.
