Women's Soccer Player of the Week: Amanda Smith, STFX

  • Year of eligibility: 5th
  • Academic program: Human Kinetics

Amanda Smith, a fifth year forward for the STFX X-Women, was named AUS championship MVP in leading her team to the conference banner this weekend, their first since 2016. Amanda was the player of the game in the championship match after scoring the game winning goal in a 2-1 win over Cape Breton. Earlier in the week, she scored the opening goal in STFX’s 3-1 semifinal win over. Named as an AUS first team all-star, Amanda finished the season tied for first in AUS scoring with 28 points and is third on the league’s career goal-scoring list with 50.

 Men's Soccer Player of the Week: Miguel da Rocha, MRU

  • Position: Midfielder
  • Hometown: Calgary, Alta.
  • Year of eligibility: 4th
  • Academic program: Computer Science

Miguel da Rocha, a fourth-year midfielder for the Mount Royal Cougars, scored the game winning goal in extra time of their quarterfinal match, resulting in a 2-1 win over Thompson Rivers. Da Rocha then had an assist and two goals in extra time in 3-1 win over the UVic Vikes during Sunday’s semifinal. The win gave MRU their first-ever berth in the U SPORTS Men’s Soccer Championship. The Canada West Championship match will take place this Saturday, hosted by Mount Royal, where D Rocha and the Cougars will face the UBC Thunderbirds.
