After a stalemate throughout the gold medal final, UBC’s Katalin Tolnai scored in the last minute of extra time to defeat Trinity Western 1-0, leading the Thunderbirds to their eighth Gladys Bean Memorial Trophy as 2023 U SPORTS Women’s Soccer Champions.

In the 119th minute, UBC got their sole opportunity of overtime when Jayda Thompson launched a perfect cross to Tolnai, who popped it off her head and in for the only goal of the match. Tolnai earned tournament MVP for her heroics.

Tolnai was also named U SPORTS Player of the Year for 2023, earning the Chantal Navert Memorial Award after amassing 14 goals and 22 points in Canada West regular season play.
