Windsor’s Anthony Atkinson and Regina’s Joely Welburn are U SPORTS track and field athletes of the week for the period ending January 22, 2023.

Joely Welbourn won two gold medals at the Golden Bear Open in Edmonton by placing first in high jump with a height of 1.69 metres and won the 60-metre hurdles in 8.42 seconds. She currently ranks fourth in U SPORTS in the 60-metre hurdles and fifth in the high jump.

The Regina Cougars will be back in action on February 3 for the Jim Daly Bison Classic in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Fifth-year thrower Anthony Atkinson set a new Windor Lancer record in the men's weight throw with an impressive throw of 17.65 metres at the Mike Lints Invitational. With his new personal best, he is now currently ranked No. 1 in the OUA and No. 2 overall in U SPORTS for the event.

Windsor will head to three meets next weekend as they travel to compete in the Jet's Pizza Invitational in Saginaw, Michigan, the Indiana University Relays in Bloomington, Indiana, and the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic in Hillsdale, Michigan.
