Acadia’s Bailey and Heslinga of Alberta named U SPORTS Volleyball Players of the Week

Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week: Wesley-Ann Bailey, Acadia 

  • Position: Middle Blocker 
  • Hometown: Ottawa, Ont. 
  • Year of eligibility: 4th  
  • Program: Political Science / Psychology  

Bailey helped the Acadia Axewomen outdo the UNB Reds at UNB's Richard J. Currie Center. On Friday night, Acadia won 3-2 (25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 26-24, 15-13). The fourth-year middle blocker tallied 21.5 points by performing 13 kills, 5 solo blocks, 5 block assists, and one service ace. On Saturday afternoon, Acadia won once again 3-2 ( 25-20, 16-25, 25-14, 21-25, 15-8). Bailey continued her excellent performance by managing 19 points. She made 9 kills, 2 service aces, 4 digs, 4 solo blocks, and 8 block assists.  Due to her performance over the weekend, Bailey in first place for solo blocks in all of U SPORTS with a total of 22.  

Men’s Volleyball Player of the Week: Isaac Heslinga, Alberta    

  • Position: Outside Hitter 
  • Hometown: Orangeville, Ont.  
  • Year: 3rd  
  • Program: Engineering  

Isaac Heslinga was unstoppable in both of the Golden Bears’ matches against the Winnipeg Wesmen over the weekend in Edmonton. In the first match against Winnipeg, Isaac ripped a match-high of 14 kills, 5 blocks, 2 assists, and 8 digs, leading the Bears to win 3-0. On Saturday night at Saville Centre, Isaac again had the most kills of the game with 24 in a thrilling 3-2 win. Heslinga was unstoppable in the deciding set, and he finished the match with just two attack errors on 47 total attempts.
