QUEBEC CITY – On the day following her crowning as U SPORTS player of the year, Cassandra Provost showed why she earned the Chantal Navert Memorial Award and scored in the 79th minute to lead the Ottawa Gee-Gees to a 1-0 victory over the Trinity Western Spartans in the quarterfinals of the 2022 U SPORTS Women’s Soccer Championship presented by Groupe Océan, Thursday at the TELUS-Université Laval Stadium in Quebec City.

The Gee-Gees had been knocking on the Spartans’ door for a moment when Soumaya Bouak found Provost near the box. Pivoting, Provost drilled a 20-yard shot at TWU’s Hannah Miller's left for the game’s only goal.

This win allows Ottawa to move to a semifinal encounter with the Montreal Carabins, Friday at 4 p.m. ET. Montreal also defeated Calgary 1-0 in the opening quarterfinal match of the tournament. Trinity Western will face Calgary in a consolation semifinal match, Friday at 11 a.m. ET.
